DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A community activist in Dothan facing several counts of sex crimes was released from the Houston County Jail on a hefty bond.

On Halloween, October 31, Dothan Police arrested 45-year-old Derrick Wayne Oliver of Dothan and charged him with one count of Rape First degree and three counts of Sodomy First degree.

Oliver was booked on a combined bond of $240,000 and released early Wednesday morning. Judge Benjamin Lewis set a condition with his bond that Oliver is to have no contact with the victim.

Police say an investigation into Oliver began in August of 2023 when it was reported to the Dothan Police Department that a juvenile under the age of 12 was a victim of sex crimes that had taken place in the city limits of Dothan.

Oliver helps with the group Team Up 4 Teens in the Wiregrass. A small group of people who run non-profits are looking for sponsors and donations to support the teens who are being forgotten about in the area.
