DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN)— A Dothan couple accused of neglecting their baby until she nearly drowned in a bathtub will face a grand jury for a second time.

In a motion filed on Monday, October 16, prosecutors claim 24-year-old Christian Lane and 23-year-old Sarah Perkins were improperly charged when investigators arrested them in 2021, saying the two had left their baby girl in a bathtub alone for nearly an hour, causing the infant almost to drown.

A Houston County Grand Jury later indicted Lane and Perkins on one count of Aggravated Child Abuse. The indictment claims the incident left the baby girl blind and with severe brain damage.

In the recent motion, prosecutors did not specify what charges Lane and Perkins should now face, but Houston County Judge Christopher Richardson granted the request.
