DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Come spring 2024, the Circle City will have a new professional sport

During the November 7 meeting of the Dothan City Commission, it was announced Dothan would be getting its first minor league soccer team.

The new minor league team will have a starting budget of $500,000 made available by investors.

Regional and local tryouts are expected to occur in March 2024, and the season will run from late April to July.

The new team plans to involve the community and host a team-naming competition lasting 30-45 days.

The Dothan City Commission also entered an agreement with Dothan Sports and Entertainment LLC to allow soccer games at Rip Hewes Stadium.
