DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — Once again, the City of Dothan brought in more than expected in Sales and Lodging Tax last month.

In May 2023, the City of Dothan brought in $8,081,888 total in sales tax. This includes figures from sales and use, motor vehicles, manufacturing, agriculture, and alcohol taxes.

The City of Dothan anticipated only bringing in $6,091,806. This means the city was $1,990,082 over the expected budget.

The city also brought in $786,331 more than it did in May 2022.

When broken down, Automotive Sales Tax had the largest increase year-over-year, bringing in $254,104 last month. In May 2022, the city brought in only $207,807. This is a 22.3% difference.

Farm and Agriculture Tax had the largest decrease year-over-year, bringing in only $6,081 in May 2023. In May 2022, the city brought in $9,837, a -38.2% difference.

Dothan’s lodging tax for May 2023 came in at a total of $302,127 against an expected $293,219. This is a $8,908 difference.
