DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — According to court records, the suspected National Peanut Festival Parade shooter has been indicted.

On Friday, April 28, Mekhi Nasir Lawton, 19, of Dothan was formally indicted after he allegedly shot and killed one victim and left one injured during the National Peanut Festival Parade in downtown Dothan.

Lawton is accused of killing Garyoun Tyrone Fluellen, 22, of Dothan after a verbal confrontation. Crowds gathered to watch the parade scattered as shots were fired.

He turned himself in later that day on one count of murder and first-degree assault.

His bond is currently set at 1.5 million and is set to appear in court on May 16, 2023, for an arraignment.
