DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Police have arrested a 42-year-old man who they say was the cause of a deadly car crash that killed two Dothan residents.

According to Dothan Police, on Thursday, March 16, Leon Jones Jr. was arrested in connection with a car crash that killed 59-year-old Audrey Jenkins and 30-year-old Derek Blessings.

On Saturday, March 11, multiple agencies rushed to the 2500 block of Ross Clark Circle on reports of an occupied vehicle that was on fire.

When first responders arrived, they found a car in the ditch fully engulfed in flames. The car had landed in the ditch after it rolled several times off the road.

Jenkins and Blessing were both pronounced dead on the scene.

Police say that after an investigation by the DPD Crash Team, it was determined that at the time of the crash, Jones was driving his 2021 Dodge Charger at a high rate of speed and under the influence of alcohol.

Jones has been charged with two counts of manslaughter and has a total bond of $60,000.

Since the crash, the family of Jenkins and Blessing have sought justice.
