HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Juneteenth will be officially observed in Houston County this year.
Houston County Commissioners voted unanimously Monday to declare next Monday, June 20th, as the Juneteenth Holiday in Houston County. This vote follows suit with the state of Alabama.
“When the state closes there really isn’t a lot our probate or revenue offices can do,” Houston County Chairman, Mark Culver said. “We try to take all the state holidays. This is one of the holidays Governor Ivey declared the week before the last, and we voted Monday to take that holiday on next Monday.”
All county offices and departments will be closed on June 20th in honor of the holiday, however, sanitation pick-up will run as scheduled.
