DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Dothan City Schools hosted a meet-greet for their brand new Kelly Springs Elementary Principal, Monica Montalvo.

Montalvo will serve as the principal of Kelly Springs beginning in the 2022-23 school year.

Montalvo is no stranger to the Dothan City School system she has worked as an instructional coach at Selma Street Elementary and now most recently serves as an assistant principal at Dothan High School.

Now as principal at Kelly Springs, she says she has big plans for the next school year.

“I want to keep fostering a family environment that’s already here,” Montalvo said. “Just how people walk through the door, children walk through the door I want them to feel like they are safe, they are loved. I want parents to feel like they belong here. This is a family community and we are part of this community. So we are all here for one thing and that’s to educate our children to the highest level possible.”

And several students, parents, school staff, and even the mayor attended tonight to welcome Montalvo into her new role.
