DOTHAN, Ala (WDHN) — One woman who paved the way for many African Americans to work in Dothan’s medical field was honored at Tuesday’s Dothan Commission meeting.

Louise Thompson, a Dothan native, worked for Flowers Hospital alongside Dr. Paul Flowers from 1950 to 1985. This week she turned 100-years-old!

Dothan commissioners declared her birthday, June 6th, Louise Thompson day in the Circle City.

On top of her work in the medical field, Dothan Mayor, Mark Saliba honored her many other accomplishments, like helping run her husband’s former business, Shaq’s Grill a staple in the Dothan community.

Dothan City Commissioner for District 1, Kevin Dorsey even asked the Dothan’s City Manager to look into the possibility of re-naming the former Moody Hospital building, which is currently being renovated into senior apartment homes, after Thompson.
