Man arrested following shooting near Skipperville that left person critically wounded overnight

DALE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN)  – Dale County deputies arrested a Skipperville man following a shooting early Saturday morning.

The shooting happened just after midnight in the 5500 block of County Road 33, according to Dale County Chief Deputy Mason Bynum. Deputies and a rescue unit for Echo were dispatched with a report of a person shot in the stomach.

Survival flight was also called to the scene to take the victim to the hospital. Bynum told WDHN Saturday morning the victim is in critical condition.

Law enforcement searched the area for the person responsible for the crime throughout the night. The Wiregrass Aviation Support Program was also used for aerial surveillance in the search.

Homer Coleman, 49, has been charged with first-degree assault, according to Dale County Jail records.

No other information is available at this time. The investigation into the shooting continues.
