UPDATE: Man in custody after fatal shooting in western Geneva County

GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — WDHN has received an update on the shooting in Geneva County on Saturday night, according to a press release.

According to the Geneva County Sheriff’s Office, the shooting that took place around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday night claimed the life of Alberto Guerra Jr., 29, after he sustained a single gunshot wound to his left torso. Guerra was pronounced dead at the scene.

The suspect in the shooting, David Allen Morris, 26, of Florala was arrested on a murder charge on Sunday morning at around 5 a.m.

Morris is currently in the Geneva County Jail with a bond set at $250,000.

A person of interest is wanted by police in connection, as they may have been a witness to the crime.

The body of the deceased was sent to the Alabama Department of Forensics for a full autopsy.

The case is still ongoing and WDHN will have updates as they become available.


GENEVA COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN)– Geneva County Sheriff Tony Helms confirmed Sunday morning that a man has been arrested following a fatal shooting in the western part of the county.

The shooting happened around 10:30 p.m. on Gopher Ridge Road, west of Samson, near the Covington County line.

Sheriff Helms confirmed to WDHN News that Alberto Guerra, Jr., died as a result of the shooting. 

As investigators developed information from witnesses, Covington County authorities became involved.  Overnight, Covington County Sheriff’s deputies took David Allen Morris, 26, into custody at a home on 7th Avenue in Florala. 

Sheriff Helms said the investigation is ongoing and more information is expected to be released later today or Monday morning.
