DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A candidate for the United States Senate is in the Wiregrass.

Veteran and former business owner, Mike Durant is launching his ‘Alabama First’ tour during his campaign. During this tour, Durant is stressing how he would target president Biden’s COVID-19 vaccine mandate and other campaign messages.

He tells WDHN, as an outsider, he decided to throw his hat in the race only after he saw how the president handled the withdrawal from Afghanistan.

“It’s Alabama first, I’m doing this for the people of Alabama and the country,” Durant said. “Because, as a senator, you can affect things that go beyond the state you represent. That is why I am doing it, I am certainly not doing it for me. I am not a career politician.”

Durant is running to replace retiring U.S. Senator Richard Shelby. He is running against Republican candidates Rep. Mo Brooks, Katie Britt, Mike Dunn, and Jake Schafer.
