DALEVILLE, Ala. (WDHN) — Wednesday morning, Daleville Department of Public Safety and the dale county coroner identified the missing woman found along HigHway 85 as Angela Duvall, 35 of Daleville.
According to Chief Medley, the situation began when officers were called to a hit-and-run accident scene at a nearby intersection around 10 p.m.
“Officers went out and made a report of the accident but everybody was fine there,” Medley said.
Duvall fled the scene and parked her car in a wooded area behind her parent’s house — approximately a mile where the wreck took place. Duvall and her 9-year-old son spent a cold Monday night in the woods.
The next morning, her son noticed his mother is not moving so he immediately went to his grandparent’s house 300 yards away and alerted his grandmother and father.
“They, in turn, called us, and that’s when we responded and obviously the search began and we ultimately found a female body down in the wooded area near a creek,” Medley said. “She was actually wearing a pair of underwear and a halter top.”
Angela’s sister, Katherine said her heart dropped into her stomach when she heard the news
“People that knew her know how hard of a worker she was and how much she did what she needed to do with her son,” Katherine Hosmun said. “I’m never gonna go shopping with her or go out to eat or just hang out that’s something completely gone and it’s just a terrible feeling.”
Chief Medley and Duvall’s sister credits Angela’s son for his heroic efforts in helping law enforcement find his mother.
“The little boy actually drew us a map to where his mother was and our hearts go out to em the department and personally for myself it hits home I have grandkids close to his age,” Medley said. “I reached out to him and his family and I hope things go well for him.”
The body has been sent in for an autopsy and Medley hopes it will come in at the end of the week.
