DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — September tenth marks National Suicide Prevention Day.
According to Spectracare specialist, Candy Gaff, sometimes it takes just having a tough conversation with a loved one about suicide to prevent a tragedy.
Gaff explained how asking explicitly, “are you having suicidal thoughts?” is one way to prevent these suicides.
Suicide is the 10th leading cause of death in the United States.
An average of 130 suicides happens every day. In 2019, The American Foundation of Suicide Prevention reported 47,511 Americans that committed suicide. In addition, 1.8 million Americans who attempted suicide.
