SLOCOMB, Ala, (WDHN) — The National Weather Service has been out surveying storm damage across Alabama today.

In Slocomb, one family’s house was heavily damaged and their carport — all but destroyed.

The National Weather Service announced that they have determined this damage was caused by an EF one tornado.

They believe it was about 50 yards wide and on the ground for just two minutes.

During that time they say it traveled two miles. That tornado heavily damaged Katie Herrington’s home.

She tells WDHN that she and her family returned to the house today to salvage items that were in the rooms with the most damage.

The family has moved to her sister’s house in town because the home is unliveable.

Their next step is to get with their insurance company, and she says an adjuster will be at the house Monday morning.
