NEW BROCKTON, Ala. (WDHN) — Authorities say they’re fortunate a domestic violence incident in Central Coffee County involving gasoline didn’t lead to any serious injuries.
At around eight o’clock this morning, authorities say Larry McGee and his live-in girlfriend got into an argument at a gas pump at Robert’s Convenience Store on the New Brockton bypass.
Mcgee reportedly sprayed gas on Crystal Mote. While doused in fuel, Mote used a cigarette lighter and set a blanket on fire, and threw it in McGee’s pick-up truck which in turn caused a fire inside the vehicle.
Mcgee left the scene, and Mote was arrested and charged with third-degree assault.
Sheriff Scott Byrd is asking McGee to report to his office, or New Brockton police for questioning concerning the incident. Mote is being held without bond since she has an outstanding warrant from Covington County on an unrelated domestic violence charge.
