ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — On Wednesday morning, Enterprise Public Works personnel began clearing a lot that will provide additional downtown parking spaces that merchants say have been needed for a long time.
The lot is located between Lee and Easy Street. During special events like October’s Weevilfest and Christmas, shopping has made parking become a problem.
Once complete, the lot will provide more than 70 new spaces for customers. Justin and Pat Peters operate
The Estate Store in Downtown Enterprise. They say the old concrete site has been an eyesore, and additional parking has long been needed.
“We do so many events that people park way down or whatever, and wind up walking here,” Justin Peters said. “The sidewalks are kind of crooked and we feel the parking lot will be awesome.”
Bryars-Warren Drug Company has been a staple in the downtown district since 1912, and having this new parking lot being built right across the street makes the employees quite happy.
“For one thing it’ll be more organized because they just kind of parked on top of each other,” Pharmacist Blake Marler said. “I think it’ll be a good thing.”
Main Street Enterprise Director Cassidi Kendrick sees the development of the unused lot as a
continuing commitment to downtown revitalization.
The project is expected to be completed by early Fall.
