ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — Newly appointed Enterprise Fire Chief, Chris Davis, announced plans this morning to create a public safety position within the department that will focus on preventing residential and business fires.
Over the summer, 28 year veteran with the Enterprise Fire Department was permanently named its chief.
Davis says he plans to place more of an emphasis on prevention, in other words, placing greater emphasis on residential smoke detectors, fire extinguishers, and just having a plan in place in the event of the unthinkable; a fully engulfed house fire.
Davis says he and the city council feel it’s important to create a safety officer position.
“But if we can provide training being your brother’s keeper, the better off we all are,” Davis said. “Because I like to keep everybody here, and we can do a lot of that through training.”
Enterprise Mayor, William Cooper, says by creating such a position within the fire department, it should be proactive in preventing blazes.
“Move our fire department in a new direction,” Cooper said. “At one time, the chief was doing everything, so he’s designating certain areas to certain people.”
The details concerning this new safety officer are still being worked on by Chief Davis and the city council.
