ENTERPRISE, Ala (WDHN)— The City of Enterprise has announced that the old recreation center is coming down, and a state-of-the-art facility will soon take its place.

The new Enterprise Recreation and Aquatics Center will be around 110,000 square feet. This will make it the largest municipal building in the city.

The facility will house a total of five indoor basketball courts, which can also be turned into and used as ten volleyball or pickleball courts. It will also include a meeting and lobby area, a cardio exercise area with all new state-of-the-art equipment, two large activity rooms, locker rooms, as well as administrative office space and storage.

On the outside, Enterprise residents can expect a large pool with six 25-yard lines, and a beach entry pool with a play structure. The outside will also include a pool party room.

The pool will be used for both competitive and recreational swimming.

Demolition of the current M. N. “Jug” Brown Recreation Center, originally built in 1958, will occur over the next few weeks.

The M. N. “Jug” Brown Recreation Center needed a lot of updates. It just couldn’t hold the demand and meet the needs of what we wanted to provide. But, it did its job and we are grateful for it, but it was time to make new.

The project contract was awarded to the Whaley Construction Company for $23,074,155, during a November City Council Meeting.

Construction on the new facility is expected to begin in January.
