UPDATE: Ozark Police searching for suspect in Highway 231 incident

UPDATE 8:45pm Saturday (WDHN) — Ozark Police are searching for David Terrell Newby, 39, following a disturbance along Highway 231 in front of the American Deli Saturday afternoon.

In a news release to WDHN Saturday evening, Police Chief Marlos Walker said a fight happened between two men in the parking lot of the restaurant around 3 p.m.

Calls to the local 9-1-1 stated one of the men used a vehicle to ram another. Shots were then fired. Chief Walker said no one was hit by the gunfire.

Ozark Police collected evidence at the scene, interviewed witnesses, and looked through surveillance video. Police say Newby is wanted on assault and reckless endangerment charges.

OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — An “active investigation” is underway following an incident in front of the American Deli on Highway 231 in Ozark Saturday afternoon.

Mayor Mark Blankenship confirmed to WDHN News that Ozark Police are investigating following initial reports of shots fired.  Those reports came in shortly before 3 p.m. Saturday. When police arrived, no one was found shot, but some of those involved are believed to have left the scene.

A WDHN News crew observed two vehicles with substantial damage as police combed the area nearby. It is not known whether anyone was hurt, nor is it clear if the wreck and possible gunfire are connected.

Members of the Dale County Sheriff’s Office were also on the scene. WDHN News was told Ozark Police are handling the investigation.
