UPDATE: Child dies from Ozark wreck, one suspect faces additional charges

UPDATE:

OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — On Wednesday, the Ozark Police Department issued an additional updated press release on the investigation into the Ozark accident on the Fourth of July.

At around 10:00 a.m. Wednesday morning, the child victim passed away from the injuries he sustained.

Because of the juvenile’s death, one of the suspects, Alexander Mcleod, 38, has now been charged with reckless murder, along with his previous charges of assault in the first degree, and felony leaving the scene of an accident.

There other two suspects in the accident have not received any additional charges, as of this posting.

There are no other updates at this time as this is still an ongoing investigation. WDHN will have updates as they become available.

OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — The Ozark Police Department has issued an updated press release on the investigation into the Ozark accident on the Fourth of July.

During the course of the investigation, it was determined that the driver of the first suspect’s vehicle struck the victim’s vehicle causing major injuries and damage to both victims.

Authorities say the suspect then fled the scene in a third vehicle driven by his friends.

Both victims of the accident were taken to Dale County Medical Center after first responders arrived on the scene.

The male juvenile victim was life-flighted to Children’s Hospital in Birmingham where he remains in critical condition.

The female adult driver of the vehicle was admitted to DCMC overnight for her injuries and was released the following day.

One of the suspects, Alexander Mcleod, 38, has now been additionally charged with assault in the first degree.

The accident is still under investigation and WDHN will have updates as they become available.

OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — On the Fourth of July, Ozark police arrested three suspects for leaving the scene of an accident, according to a press release.

There are currently three suspects in custody on felony charges of leaving the scene of the accident. The suspects are Alexander Mcleod, 38, Trevonta Nance, 21, and Jaquires Williams, 24, all residents of Ozark.

According to Ozark authorities, one adult female and one male juvenile were injured after an accident occurred near the intersection of Mixon School Road and Saxon Lane.

Ozark Police Chief Marlos Walker told WDHN that the injured juvenile remains in critical condition at Children’s of Alabama Hospital in Birmingham. The injured female was taken to Dale County Medical Center.

The root cause of the accident was determined to be excessive speeding and reckless driving.

Chief Walker says the investigation continues and there will be more information released on this case.
