COFFEE CO., Ala. (WDHN)— Coffee County officials have their own intersection safety concerns.

During the July fourth weekend, Coffee County Sheriff Chief Deputy, Ronnie Whitworth, says his deputies
Saw “Traffic gridlock” conditions heading southbound on county road 141 in the
Curtis Community.

With the ongoing replacement of the U.S. Highway 331 bridge in Opp, traffic has been rerouted
to 141 in a very rural section of the western wiregrass.

Chief Deputy Ronnie Whitworth who is a “retired” Alabama State Trooper says 141 has been seeing
increased wrecks and other traffic issues this summer tourist season with travelers often “beach bound”.

State DOT officials hope the new U.S. Highway 331 bridge in Opp will be completed later this year, and
will once again serve as a major north-south route to Florida’s beaches mainly from
Panama City to Pensacola.
