Saliba: Cost of living needs to be considered when discussing minimum wage

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Democrats have proposed a bill that would gradually raise the federal minimum wage to $15 by the year 2025.

While minimum wage workers would prosper, there is some fear that small businesses might suffer — especially after the effects the coronavirus pandemic has had on them.

WDHN was able to meet up with Mayor Mark Saliba to find out whether he thinks raising the minimum wage is a good idea.

“State to state, it varies so much, the cost of living, so that needs to be taken into consideration, but I don’t think there is anybody that’s just against raising the minimum wage or a livable wage,” Saliba said.

Another proposed plan is to raise the minimum wage to $10 by 2025 then increase it every other year to account for inflation.
