COFFEE COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN)— The former captain of the Coffee County Sheriff Reserves formally announced his bid as a sheriff’s candidate.

Accompanied by his wife, K.D., and campaign supporters, Captain Scott Byrd became a candidate for
Coffee County Sheriff.

Byrd had been with the CCSO for 23 years before leaving to run for the position.

Byrd says his platform includes ensuring folks feel safe in their homes, schools, and houses of worship.

Byrd’s family homesteaded in Coffee County several generations ago, and his mission statement is
“My word is my bond.”

As of now, Scott Byrd is the only announced candidate running against incumbent Sheriff Dave Sutton. The two will square off in the Republican primary in May.
