SLOCOMB, Ala (WDHN)— On October 19, Geneva E-911 dispatched multiple fire and rescue departments to a residential fire in Slocomb.
First responders arrived at North State Highway 103, North of Slocomb to find a single-story home fully involved in a fire, with partial collapse. The fire also endangered two barns and multiple vehicles.
Defensive fire attack operations were initiated. Extreme heat from the fire and high winds made it difficult to extinguish. Firefighters were able to save the two barns and an adjacent unharvested field of cotton.
Slocomb Fire, Malvern Fire, and Fadette Fire were dispatched, including Wicksburg Fire and Hartford Fire for additional support due to the closest fire hydrant being located over two miles away.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
