SLOCOMB, Ala. (WDHN)—On Friday, Slocomb Fire and Rescue held its annual Memorial Day Weekend Boot Drive.
Slocomb Fire Rescue Chief, Kyle Hovey, says he is impressed with the giving spirit of both residents and out-of-towners.
In just three hours, his agency raised nearly half of the department’s eight-thousand-dollar goal. The money will be used for hoses and other equipment for the department’s new pumper truck which is expected to arrive in early 2024.
Chief Hovey says the department’s new 93-thousand dollar pumper truck is being paid through a combination of federal, and state grant dollars, along with Slocomb appropriating local money.
