Some firework stands see increase in sale even during pandemic; others not so much

(WDHN) — With 4th of July coming up, many are looking forward to getting away and possibly shooting fireworks.

So how have firework stands been fairing considering the shutdown?

One place said sales have gone up.

“It has been insane,” Holiday Fireworks manager Greg Ellison said. “With Juneteenth, we added a new holiday, so they all came in. Memorial Day was bigger than it has ever been. I’ve been here for 15 years, so it was huge.”

Merritt’s, another stand, said they have also seen an increase in sales over the past weekend and expect it to increase this weekend.

“It was pretty good last weekend, and we’ll have a good one being that it’s on Saturday,” Merritts Fireworks owner Tim Reeves said. “With all this stuff going on, people will enjoy getting out and do some fireworks. I don’t blame them I would too.”

Not all stands have had increased sales. One place said even with the upcoming weekend, they haven’t seen much increase.

“Yeah even with the upcoming weekend it hasn’t been a lot of people coming,” Holland’s Country Corner owner James Norris said. “It’s been here and there sporadic, and of course, we’re not allowed to have as many people in the store as we use to either. Our maximum capacity is about 25 people.”

Norris does think more people will show up the closer we get to the weekend.

He also said that the reduced number of customers allowed in his store has affected business.
