Southeast Health in major need of three specific blood types

Local News

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Giving blood is a necessity for keeping patients alive in the hospital, which is why Southeast Health holds regular blood drives.

Currently, there’s a major need for O+, O- and B+ blood with O negative blood being the universal donor of blood, and if you have recently recovered from COVID-19, your plasma could save COVID-19 victims’ lives.

Southeast Health holds two drives per day.

“It 100 percent provides our local blood supply to our local hospitals in the Wiregrass area,” said Candace Johnson, center team supervisor. “Without donors coming in, hospitals do not have the blood they need for surgeries, accidents, and traumas, that type of thing.”

The bloodmobile was in front of Southeast Health until 4 p.m. Friday.
