ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN)—A long-awaited transportation project got underway in Enterprise this week.

The Alabama Department of Transportation’s goal is to get traffic to move smoother
along State Highway 167 which is a major hurricane evacuation route from Florida panhandle beaches.

The work will add an additional lane both north and south from the boll weevil circle to Salem Road,
Which is located about a mile away.

For years, local officials in both troy and enterprise have pushed to four-lane 167 for the approximately
35 miles between the cities. A project that is not on the ALDOT five-year plan at this time.
But here’s what’s involved with the “one-mile” expansion.

The 13-million-dollar contract is expected to be completed by the Summer or Fall of 2024.
