MIDLAND CITY, Ala. (WDHN) — To raise awareness about identity theft protection and promote environmental stability, Sunset Memorial Park hosted its annual shred event and pet supply drive.

Sunset Memorial Park partnered with Assured Data Destruction, and the Wiregrass Pet Rescue and Adoption Center to hold this event.

Community members were asked to bring pet items and donations for the Wiregrass Pet Rescue and Adoption Center.

Then, if they had any old checks, receipts, credit card offers, bills, and any old bank statements to be shredded by Assured Data Destruction.

“There’s a lot of important information that is on those documents,” Funeral Director at Sunset Memorial Park, Andrew Byrd said. “Obviously if you were to throw it into regular trash can if you will, that information can get out to anybody, of course, having assured data destroy that data for you protects all that vital information that might be on those documents.”

The event was held from 9 a.m. until noon today, and they are looking forward to holding the shred event again next year.

“We hope to continue to do it,” Byrd said. “We had a lot of interest with people from the Wiregrass area, to help with the many calls we receive throughout the years. Plus it’s a good cause.”
