Suspect pleads not guilty to murder of former Dothan movie producer

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — A Georgia man accused of murdering a Dothan man on Oct. 24, 2019 pleaded not guilty to the crime this week.

Marcus Shabbass Hubbard, 50, of Douglasville, Georgia, was arrested in January 2020 for the death of former movie producer Rodney Caliste. Caliste died after someone walked up to him outside his home on Woodham Road and shot him in the face, Dothan police said at the time.

Months later, Dothan police officers and Douglas County deputies arrested Hubbard in the murder investigation, charging him with narcotics crimes as well. At the time of his arrest, Dothan police told WDHN that Hubbard and Caliste were business associates.

Last Tuesday, Hubbard pleaded not guilty to Caliste’s death. The prosecution and defense will now work on gathering evidence for their respective arguments.

The trial is set for May 10, 2021.
