SLOCOMB, Ala. (WDHN) — Portions of the Wiregrass are showing continued growth in retail and population for the last 14 years.

Mayor Rob Hinson says the city has seen exponential growth coming from nearby Dothan
And western Houston County.

First elected in 2008, Hinson says he’s never seen such a demand for residential real estate
for the city coiffeurs, it means more sales and property taxes.

In addition, people from as far away as Los Angeles and New York City have discovered through the internet the city has a good school system, low crime, and country living.

“We are experiencing that bedroom community growth, that we are trying to prepare for and anticipate. But we’re absolutely thrilled that people are coming and recognize that we are a place to live, play, and work,”

With the residential growth, Mayor Hinson says that translates into an increased demand by businesses and individuals to set up shop in eastern Geneva County.
