COFFEE CO., Ala. (WDHN)— “Mayor” is a “purebred” poodle who is being used as a “therapy dog” in the Coffee County School District.
In many cases, “Mayor’s” presence has a calming effect on a child who may be having trouble in class for whatever reason.
County commissioners also met “Rocky”. A Belgium Malinois and “Desah”, a Dutch Shepard.
Both “Rocky” and “Desah” are trained in tracking and drug detection.
Sheriff Dave Sutton says he’s received high marks Rocky and Desah have had on locating illegal narcotics, and
“Mayor” has been a great asset in the classroom”.
Sheriff Sutton says the cost for all three dogs’ was minimal for his department. The majority of the funds came from individual and business contributions.
