Houston County Sheriff Donald Valenza confirmed that the body of Jason Campbell was found Thursday morning.

Stay with WDHN throughout the day for the latest.

UPDATE 6/16/2020:

WDHN has learned the victim is in his forties and was boating with his family of three when he fell overboard. The two other family members also fell overboard but were able to get back in the boat.

Early County authorities received the call around 4 o’clock this afternoon. That call prompted a massive search.

Over two dozen people searched the river trying to locate the individual. Helicopters belonging to Dale County and Henry County flew across the sky along with a drone. Meanwhile, an underwater torpedo from the Houston County Sheriff’s Office scanned below.

“We also did contact Ft. Gaines and the Corps of Engineers and had the water flow turned off so that the current has slowed down,” said Houston County EMA Director Chris Judah. “It is pretty rough out there so that has added to difficulty in the search.”

At last update, the searchers had not located the individual and will begin the search again at sunrise.

Multiple first responder agencies are on the scene on River Road in Columbia. Currently, officials are working to get boaters out of the water and away from the scene.

COLUMBIA, Ala. (WDHN) — A search is underway for a boater who went missing on the Chattoohoochee River.

The search is taking place near the Columbia boat landing, according to Chris Judah, director of the Dothan-Houston County Emergency Management Agency.
