DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — Something exciting is brewing in the Circle City with plans to bring a brand new brewery to downtown Dothan.
Circle City Brewing, which will be located right on Foster Street will offer people visiting downtown a unique experience and taste.
Just on the other side of the state line, Southern Fields Brewing serves 18 different craft beers, made right in-house, offering the community its own special brew.
After realizing both the want and need for craft beer in Dothan, the owner of Southern Fields Brewing, Brian Walker, knew it was the perfect time to tap into the downtown market, hence the beginning of Circle City Brewing.
“Once we started looking in Dothan, we were really drawn to the downtown area,” Walker said.
This brewery will offer the Wiregrass specialty drinks, made and only found exclusively in the heart of the Circle City. It’s not only beer they’ll be serving, Walker said they’ll have a drink everyone can enjoy and even a full menu.
“The beer is going to tell its own story but the building and the area tell another story as well, Walker said. “We just want to pay to the history of Dothan and the history of downtown.”
This new business isn’t the only thing brewing downtown.
Mural City Coffee Company finished the last of its upgrades with the addition of a new state-of-the-art sign. The sign allows the business to pay tribute to the former Carmichael Building but also gives the coffee shot a distinct presence on North Foster.
Later in 2022, renovations to the coffee shop’s second floor will add both a classroom and a training space. There are also plans for a new coffee truck to hit the streets of Dothan.
Business owners believe all of this growth is vital for a healthy downtown.
“One of the biggest things for the downtown area will bring people to the downtown area,” Dothan City Commissioner, and owner of the former Wise Building, Gantt Pierce said.
He believes the brewery will be just another addition to the Foster Street family, giving people visiting the area another local business to support.
“You see these things being a catalyst for growth down here and with all the things going with the city center. I think it is going to fit in perfectly,” Pierce said.
Walker said he is excited to see new faces and give them a new local hotspot that will not only quench customers’ thirst but also teach a little bit of history.
“We will pay homage to Dothan and the downtown inside of Circle City Brewing as well,” Walker said. “You will get good beer, good food, and hopefully a good lesson.”
Walker tells WDHN he expects to have Circle City Brewing open and ready to serve the Wiregrass community by the fall. For now, he invites anyone who wants a taste of what’s coming to visit its sister brewery, Southern Fields Brewing, in Campbelton, Florida.
