Wiregrass Angel House reaching more victims as memory crosses hits almost 300

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — For grieving family members, there’s one place where they can always remember their loved ones, The Wiregrass Angel House.

The angel house puts out crosses to honor those, whose loved ones were murdered in the Wiregrass.

Last year, they had under 100 crosses, now it’s almost 300.

Outreach Coordinator Katy Lewis believes it’s because more people are understanding how helpful the angel house is. Additionally, their call volume has gone up, as more people are eager to want their loved ones pictures to be a part of the remembrance of crosses.

September is the month for reflection on these losses with their annual day of memory on September 25th.

“The month of September, I feel like all the hard stuff we have to do makes it worth it because you see them all come in and you see how thankful they are for us,” Lewis said. “As sad as it is, this really is a good time of the year for us, we try to focus more on the celebration of their life.”

For all those still grieving, Lewis encourages citizens to reach out to the Wiregrass Angel House. They are here for you to get through your loss she said.

No matter if your loss happened yesterday or twenty years ago, they can help you take the first step of healing.
