DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) —We’re now facing a critical need for all blood types in the Wiregrass.

The LifeSouth Community Blood Center says that donations are usually slow during the summer months because people are traveling, but that it’s hitting the center especially hard this year.

Typically, donor beds being used to give blood would be full.

However, on Thursday afternoon, those beds were empty.

The LifeSouth Community Blood Center provides blood for six different hospitals in the Wiregrass and is the primary blood supplier for each hospital.

LifeSouth is in need of all blood types, but especially in need of O+ and O-.

“They don’t give blood and that’s what we are seeing a shortage in all blood types,” Regional Manager for LifeSouth, Rebecca Hughes said. “Our hospitals really struggling currently.”

If you are interested in giving blood, the LifeSouth Community Blood Center on Ross Clark Circle near Denton Road in Dothan is open seven days a week. You can walk in, or if you’d like to set up an appointment, you can visit their website here.
