WIREGRASS, Ala. (WDHN) — The January unemployment numbers are in, and the Wiregrass is right in line with unemployment numbers across the state.

Alabama’s jobless rate remained unchanged at 3.1% for the fourth straight month in January, according to the Associated Press.

The report says the jobless rate represented 69,141 people without jobs, compared to 90,390 in January 2021.

The Wiregrass saw similar unemployment compared to the state, with Coffee County having the lowest unemployment at 3.1%. Henry County and Houston County are tied for the highest unemployment in the area at 3.3%.

The lowest recorded unemployment in Alabama was in Shelby County with 2.2%. The highest unemployment was in Wilcox County at 11.2%.
