WIREGRASS (WDHN) — As hurricane Idalia makes its way inland, Wiregrass 2-1-1 wants to ensure local citizens and those seeking shelter from the storm have a safe place to go.

According to Wiregrass 2-1-1, Wiregrass safe havens will open to the public on Tuesday, August 29, at noon.

There are two safe havens open as of Tuesday:

  • Westgate Church of Christ
    • 617 Westgate Parkway, Dothan, AL 36303
  • First Baptist Church of Dothan 
    • 300 West Main Street, Dothan, AL 36301 

Those seeking shelter must bring their own daily medications, snacks, and food.

According to the National Hurricane Center, as Idalia moves onshore in the Big Bend region of Florida, flash and urban flooding are expected across parts of Florida’s West Coast, panhandle, and parts of southern Georgia from Tuesday into Wednesday. This is expected to spread into the eastern Carolinas from Wednesday to Thursday.
