WIREGRASS (WDHN) — The Wiregrass Area Food Bank is proclaiming September as Hunger Action Month.
The food bank has been going around to each county and city to shine a light on the hunger problem.
They need help feeding the needy in their six-county service area here in the Wiregrass. One in six people face hunger in America and the Wiregrass — more than 43,000 people in our area.
The food bank does not only want to make municipalities aware but to actually do something about it such as holding food drives.
“When you look at this warehouse and food bank you see a pallet racking of food, but when you think about the fact we do a pallet distribution of 60 thousand pounds a week,” Assistant Director Julie Gonzalez said. “All it takes is four rows of pallet racking and this food is gone so we need the continued help this is your food bank.”
Gonzalez said not only do they help those in need, but also when there is a natural disaster.
