ENTERPRISE, Ala. (WDHN) — As the pandemic continues, one Wiregrass doctor is urging pregnant women to be extremely cautious.

According to Dr. Beverly Jordan, with Medical Center Enterprise, this message comes after UAB doctors helped save an unborn child before the mother died from COVID-19 complications, according to reports.

Dr. Jordan says pregnancy is a high-risk condition for COVID, just like obesity and having a heart condition. She said pregnant women absolutely need to be vaccinated. Jordan said vaccinations have been promoted and studied by the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

“We now have some really great studies that show that babies who are born to mom who had COVID have antibodies themselves,” Dr. Jordan said. “We want to vaccinate that way we can protect both mom and baby.”

Dr. Jordan tells WDHN, vaccinations are the only way pregnant women and their unborn babies can be fully protected against the coronavirus.
