Lumber company receives grant money to build sawmill in Pike County


One of northwest Florida’s largest lumber operations will be opening a facility north of Troy.

Friday, Gov. Kay Ivey announced a half-million dollar grant to assist Graceville based Rex Lumber to build a $110 million sawmill operation in Pike County.

The federal Community Development Block Grant money will be used to resurface Orion Road from the proposed plant to U.S. Highway 231. Production is expected to begin in about a year 

After the plant construction gets underway  the new Rex mill is expected to create at least 100 new jobs.
