Man charged with attempted murder in Camelot Villa Apt. shootings

Multiple 9-1-1 calls brought Enterprise police officers to the Camelot Villa Apartments last night.

“It sounded like at first to be firecrackers, then we heard more and it scared me, and it scared my dog, and after it stopped, we came out and saw what was going on,” said resident John Lee.

Three people were shot in the parking lot around 9:30 p.m., according to witness and law enforcement. The suspect, Devonta Levar Tillis, 23, of Brighton, was located and arrested a short time later. Tillis was charged with attempted murder. Several people living at the complex say they’ve never seen this kind of violence here.

It gives everybody here in the South a bad name when you start seeing stuff like this,” Lee said.

“All the individuals involved in the shooting they were all acquaintances, and what we discovered is it was related to domestic issues, which is why the altercation started in the first place,” said Sergeant Billy Haglund with the Enterprise Police Dept.

Witnesses and police said the victims drove themselves to the hospital before authorities arrived. Haglund said each of the victims suffered multiple gunshot wounds, and neighbors call it a senseless altercation.

“Sometimes, you just have people who don’t know how to throw a fist instead of throwing a bullet. In my opinion, if you’re going to do something like that, just get in a fist fight, because you don’t get killed, and you don’t go to prison,” said Lee.

Haglund said the case is still under investigation, and the suspect could face additional charges. He also said the three victims were still in the hospital as of the afternoon, and there was no information immediately available on their conditions.
