Man charged with intentionally setting fire to home twice in Ashford

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) —  Houston County Sheriff’s investigators say a man has been arrested and charged after two fires happened at an Ashford home this month.

Samuel Mitchell Pittman is charged with two counts of 2nd degree arson

On the night of June 21, firefighters and law enforcement officials arrived at 5626 Lucy Grade Road after receiving a call about a structure fire.  When they arrived, the home was fully engulfed in flames. 

Shortly after the fire started, investigators discovered Samuel Mitchell Pittman had left the home earlier in the evening. Pittman was located walking down County Road 33 in Ashford the same night. He was detained and transported to the sheriff’s office for questioning. Investigators said he confessed to intentionally setting the house fire that evening as well as another fire at the same location on June 8. 

Pittman was arrested and charged with two counts of 2nd degree arson with bond totaling $120,000. He is currently in the Houston County Jail.
