HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Another new mask mandate in the Wiregrass to start 2022.

Houston County is requiring all its employees to wear masks while inside county buildings to combat the increase of COVID-19 cases due to the omicron variant.

According to Commissioner for District 2, Doug Sinquefield said this mask mandate is for Houston County employees only masks will continue to be optional for the public. Anyone entering any Houston County building will be subject to temperature checks before being allowed to proceed.

“As long as we can continue to operate and provide services we can to the public because this increase of this new omicron has come in and now we got to take the precautions as necessary,” Sinquefield said.

Sinquefield said these practices are in place only temporarily and an optional mandate for employees will be put back into place once COVID numbers in the county decrease.
