HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala. (WDHN) — Currently, in Houston County, there are 167 foster kids, and not all have a foster family to call their own.

On Monday, to bring recognition and support to those children in foster care and their foster families, the Houston County Commissioners declared the month of May in the county, ‘Foster Care Month.’

At this time, there are 34 parents licensed to foster children in Houston County and the county is always in need of more people to take on this huge but rewarding responsibility.

The Houston County Department of Human Resources will hold foster parent classes this coming September, anyone who feels a calling to become a foster parent is encouraged to attend.

Officials tell WDHN that during their last session, a total of eight parents signed up to become foster guardians.
