DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN) — At RIP Hewes Stadium in Dothan, a makeover soon will get underway that will make the sports venue more modern.

It has been more than six decades since improvements have been made at the historic stadium but residents can expect several renovations to be completed.

Dothan City Commissioners approved the purchase of new lighting for the parking lot, and there are plans to resurface it as well.

According to Mayor Mark Saliba, new stadium lights and also a new scoreboard will be installed.

He tells WDHN the total price tag is just a little over $3,000,000. Officials said these renovations will keep RIP Hewes viable for years to come.

“It’s going to be so beautiful, you’re going to want to take a before and after picture,” Saliba said. “It’s going to be incredible what this place looks like when it’s all said and done.”

According to city officials, this is just phase one of renovations, more work is planned over the next year.
