Ozark community tackles the topic of underage drinking

OZARK, Ala. (WDHN) — Ozark City Schools and the Boys and Girls Club of Ozark are coming together to bring awareness to underaged drinking.

This Learning Out Loud, or LOL, event will consist of a panel of representatives from the Ozark Police Department, State Farm Insurance, Arch Counseling, Ozark Pediatrics, and more will be sharing with the community the effects of underage drinking and all the areas that can be effected by it.

“Underaged drinking is a huge topic especially with high schoolers and college students,” Boys and Girls Club Executive Director, Jessica Moore said. “So we really wanted to bring this panel together so that we can really get it out there and the message behind underaged drinking.”

As Ozark City Schools Mental Health Services Coordinator, Laura Bruce says underage drinking affects everyone.

“Underage drinking effects us all, so it’s not just that child, that student, it affects their family,” Bruce said. “It affects us a community as a whole. So we wanted to bring as many important stakeholders in the community to talk about this very important subject.”

The LOL event will be Friday, October 8 at 6 p.m. at the amphitheater in downtown Ozark. This event is free to the public.
