MALVERN, Ala. (WDHN) — The Geneva County Road 49 project is moving forward.
As of now, the road consists of loose gravel, but if the weather permits asphalt will go down tomorrow and the rest of the week if weather permits.
Late next week, the asphalt is expected to be done and later crews will come back out to finish up the shoulder work.
Afterward, the striping company will come out to stripe the road in October.
Geneva county commissioner Weston Spivey said drivers can expect to move freely without delays soon.
“This road is undergoing major major major resurfacing which has been overdue for over 40 years now,” Spivey said. “We been trying to get this done for a long time many administrations before me we’re fortunate to be able to get it done, but it’s gonna be later this week before we can expect to see some relief in traffic.”
Spivey said drivers need to stay patient and be careful by paying attention to road signs and road workers.
