UPDATE: Teen charged in accidental shooting of friend in South Dothan

UPDATE Monday 7:00 a.m. (WDHN) — Dothan Police confirm to WDHN that a 14-year-old has been charged in the accidental shooting that left another teen wounded Saturday morning on Hill Street.

The teen now faces a first-degree assault charge in the case, according to DPD.

The name of the teenager charged with the crime will not be released due to his age. The two teenagers were friends, DPD confirmed.

The 14-year-old victim, who was shot in the back, is recovering at a Birmingham hospital.

DOTHAN, Ala. (WDHN)  — One person was shot Saturday morning in south Dothan.

Around 10:15 a.m., Dothan Police units arrived in the 200 block of Hill Street, near the intersection of Madison Avenue and Roberts Street after receiving a call about a shooting.

According to law enforcement on the scene, the shooting involved a teenager and is believed to be accidental. The victim reportedly sustained a wound to his back.

The patient was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, and his condition is unknown at this time.

Saturday’s shooting marks an uptick in gun violence in the past several weeks in Dothan, including two murders this past week.
